Buying PEAK pre-owned
Basketball and running shoes, and the basketball pairs are the ones that arrive in the more interesting condition. A used basketball shoe has been worn on a hard court, which polishes the outsole smooth without taking much depth off it, so the tread looks worse than it is.
The cushioning on the higher lines is a moulded foam unit rather than a bag, so it does not puncture. What it does is take a set, and a pair that has taken one sits noticeably lower on one side. We stand every pair on a flat surface and look along it from behind.
Painted logos on the midsole chip rather than fade, so a worn pair shows its age in small hard-edged marks along the foxing rather than in a general dullness. Those chips are in the photographs and they are in the rating.
How the sizing runs
Sized in EU and in centimetres on the label. We measure the inside rather than converting from the EU number, because the conversion and the label disagree on more of these pairs than they agree on.
